Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA).

The Australian Curriculum outlines the level of achievement that each Australian student is expected to achieve across each subject. The Curriculum is designed to enhance learning in the 21st century, as it considers the changing ways in which students learn and the challenges that they will face in the future. The Curriculum also supports the fact that students interests, needs and learning styles will vary and allows Australian teachers to plan lessons in ways that will support these factors.

The Foundation to year 10 Australian Curriculum outlines what students should be taught in each learning area for each specific year. Each learning area also includes:

  • a rationale and aims
  • an overview of how the learning area is organised
  • descriptions of each year level
  • descriptions of content outlining what students are expected to teach.
  • achievement standards that students are expected to achieve at certain points in their education.
  • samples of student work to show the expected level of achievement at each year level.
  • a glossary to help understand the terms usedthroughout the document
